As far as any mouse knows, the Erg Great Dunes are endless. Every explorer that has tried to venture into them has been met with catastrophe. Few have survived this burning ocean of sand for long. Here there are no Shards, no water, and nothing lives, save for strange and horrible creatures known only as the Mutants. Venturing into the Erg is an act not fit for mouse or beast.“The Shards carved our world from those lifeless dunes. Brought life to death. But never forget that death still lurks out there. Be vigilant, and let no mouse seek their fortunes there.” - Grandmarshall Greyfoot
The Dryseed Deadlands are a barren wasteland on the north-eastern edge of Roden. A desolate and forsaken territory, it was once the location of the great Rustroot Burrow – one of the most prosperous mouse colonies in history. All of that changed when a former leader of the Mech Mice did the unthinkable and removed the Rustroot Shard, claiming it for a sinister secret group that called themselves the Dark Union. The Rustroot Burrow was annihilated, the lands fell to ruin, and the first War of the Shards began. Dryseed remains a painful reminder of what happens when a Shard is removed from where it belongs.“Any mouse having trouble understanding WHY we need the Mech Mice should take a jolly stroll through Dryseed. THAT’S where you’ll see the price of not standing up for what’s right!” - General Black
On the northern edge of the continent are the Blackwall Badlands; tough lands inhabited by tougher mice. Dry, hot, and dangerous, there are nonetheless many creatures that call its many canyons home. The mice of Blackwall Burrow dwell underground in a vast networks of tunnels and caves, while others live in small villages that dot the region. The Shard of Blackwall is smaller than most, so the wilderness is not as lush as the rest of Roden, but there are many small oases if you look carefully. But be cautious – for rattlesnakes, eagles, desert cats and coyotes also roam these lands, along with the odd and mysterious rodent cousins, the Cave Bats.“Whatta ya talking about? There’s PLENTY to eat here… if ya like the taste of CACTUS!” - Lefty, Grenadier
Story is a huge part of what Mech Mice is. -Mech MooseNow that the game has officially launched, the team thought it would be cool to start telling the story of where the Mech Mice come from.
“I really worked quite hard creating this piece of CGI of MGFX (which ever you prefer calling). My main focus on this piece was to help me practice my modeling, texturing, lighting, and rendering skills. A good 6 hours was spent creating the final 1280×800 (my screen res.) that you can see now. It is the Standard Blaster wielded by the Grunt Unit with high resolution textures and subdivisions, finely modeled in high poly mode with Maxon’s Cinema 4D. I always take pride in my work and make it look as real to life, or design as possible. I feel that I hit the nail on the head with this model.” -Xonius
